I was singing the Blues in Nashville and I sang myself into deep despair before finally deciding to sing for God. But, I was a very independent woman and wanted to do everything my way, and I found out that trying to be good on my own merit is not the way of God. To be led by the Holy Spirit is quite different indeed!

So many times in my life I have tried to live by the Golden Rule. I've pushed and I pulled at my pride, time and time again I've played the role of a fool, wonderin' what I've been doing so wrong, feeling's been chasing me too long. But now I'm ready to see, one more time I say, "I just wanna be free."
